www.chain-reaction.org.au McMahon Clarke Legal are proud to be involved in the Chain Reaction Corporate Cycling Challenge. We have sponsored the event each year since its inception. In the past two years one of our team members has participated as a cyclist - one of our partners, Andrew Shearer-Smith, rode in 2010 and this year one of our senior associates, Matt Allen, completed the odyssey. Last year's event saw participants cycling from Port Macquarie to Noosa whilst in May this year Matt and his fellow cyclists rode from Forster, New South Wales to Brisbane, Queensland. Chain Reaction is a serious cycling challenge for senior executives with a passion for cycling and an awareness of their corporate social responsibilities. We use it as an opportunity to give something back to the community, while for Andrew and Matt the journey was also a personal achievement. Amazingly, the Chain Reaction cycling challenges in which we were involved have raised over $1.4 million in aggregate for the past two years. The money is shared between a number of charities but there is always a focus on children. Last year's funds were shared between the Starlight Children’s Foundation and The Alannah and Madeline Foundation whilst this year Starlight is again a beneficiary as well as the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation.
McMahon Clarke is proud to be a sponsor of the Yalari National Indigenous Scholarship Program. We were delighted to sponsor Yalari's gala dinner in 2009 and 2010 and continued as a donor in 2011. Yalari offers indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities and towns across Australia the opportunity for a first class secondary education through scholarship to attend some of Australia's leading boarding schools. Established in 2005, Yalari currently supports 179 children around Australia. McMahon Clarke Legal is inspired to make a difference by our sponsorship of a hearing impaired child from Papua New Guinea. We assisted Hannah-Lisa Xaiver and her parents, to temporarily live in Toowoomba, so that Hannah-Lisa can attend therapy with the Hear and Say Centre for her profound hearing loss. The Hear and Say Centre is one of the leading Paediatric Auditory-Verbal and cochlear implant centres in the world, teaching children who are deaf or hearing impaired to listen and speak since 1992. The Centre aims for its children to achieve speech and language in the normal range for their age by six years of age giving them the opportunity for a mainstream education, employment of choice and social integration with the hearing world.
At McMahon Clarke Legal, we believe that ongoing participation in industry is vital to stay ahead of continuing changes and developments. We play an active role in contributing with representation on the executive committee of the Australian Direct Property Investment Association (ADPIA). ADPIA is the peak national body representing the interests of its members in the unlisted property investment sector: trusts and syndicates. ADPIA seeks to both promote and enhance the professionalism of its members and to assist those members in their dealings with financial planners, investors and other industry players, whilst also assisting Australians in achieving financial security through an expansive understanding of investment property. With membership including property fund managers, property financiers and other property and mortgage professionals, ADPIA disseminates information and education, creates industry standards, lobbies regulators and State and Federal politicians, and encourages interaction/networking between members for their mutual benefit. ADPIA advocates transparency, equality of treatment, education and the development of superior standards across the direct and unlisted property sector. PIR is a leading independent provider of authoritative research and ratings services on Australia's $400+ billion property funds sector. An industry pioneer since 1989, PIR is Australia's most experienced and well-resourced research organisation, backed by more than 500 years of specialist industry expertise. McMahon Clarke Legal sponsored the 15th Annual PIR Property Funds Industry Forum. The conference provided unique market intelligence and professional insights into the global property funds industry. World-class presenters examined both local and global issues that impact the continuous growth, the future development, the market demand and investment opportunities of this lucrative market.
