Experience: Jane is a senior associate with the private client and business succession team and her expertise is in wills, estate planning and succession law.

In 2007, Jane was one of only five solicitors to be appointed an Accredited Specialist in Succession Law by the Queensland Law Society. The accreditation process requires successful candidates to demonstrate a high level of technical skill and practical application in the areas of estate planning, estate administration and estate litigation.

Jane specialises in providing private clients and small to medium sized business clients with structuring, estate planning and business succession advice. Her work involves:

• Working with financial advisers and accountants to develop an estate plan that enables clients to protect their wealth and distribute their estate in a tax efficient manner.
   
• Developing estate plans and strategies that consider and provide for unforeseen circumstances such as bankruptcy, divorce and beneficiaries not equipped to inherit assets and wealth.
   
• Preparing Wills, including complex Wills incorporating a variety of testamentary trusts.
   
• Preparing guardians booklets providing detailed instructions to guardians about how parents would like their children to be raised in the event of their passing.
   
• Preparing trust deeds and reviewing the terms of existing trust deeds for family trusts, business trusts and investment trusts; including shareholder and business succession agreements.

Jane also advises clients on business succession issues and preparing documents such as shareholder agreements, buy out agreements, partnership agreements and business succession agreements.

A regular contributor to the Retirement and Estate Planning Bulletin, Jane is also a key note speaker at events for accountants, advisory groups and their clients on topical issues in estate planning and business succession planning.

Professional Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and Postgraduate Legal Practice Course. Jane is an Accredited Specialist—Succession Law.
